Labelled as Sabal blackburniana here in Adelaide Botanic Gardens but it has now been lumped in with Sabal palmetto.
15 species of fan palms make up the Sabal genus which originates from North as well as South America and the Caribbean Islands.Sabal palms in general do well in hot dry climates but they will also tolerate quite a range of other habitats including cold or boggy sites.
Sabal palmetto (Sabal blackburniana) is an impressive cold hardy fan palm growing to nearly 10 metres developing a rounded arching crown of frons.
